New Zealand-born cellist Francis Yoon is a Masters student with Georg Pedersen at the Sydney Conservatorium, where he had graduated with the Chancellor’s Scholarship, John Cassim Prize for Music and Joyce Billings Memorial Prize for Cello.
Francis was a finalist and prizewinner of the NSW Drs Orchestra Instrumental Scholarship, semifinalist of the Wallace International Cello Competition, and finalist in the Sydney Conservatorium’s Sonata (Duo) Competition. His appearances with the Eastern Sydney Chamber Orchestra, featuring both Haydn cello concertos, were season highlights. Francis’s chamber music successes include winning the NZCT Chamber Music Contest and selection for the Estivo European Chamber Music Summer School and the New Zealand String Quartet’s Troubadour Quartet Internship. His V2R Trio specialised in soundtrack arrangements for piano trio.
Most recently, his Quartet 121 won the Sydney Eisteddfod Orvieto Musica Scholarship, and will participate in the Orvieto Musica Festival from June to July.
