2025 MMF Fellow
Daniel Casey is a passionate young violist going into his first year at ANAM, studying under Caroline Henbest.
His musical journey began with a love for singing, performing as a chorister with the Young Voices of Melbourne and later the Australian Boys Choir. However, it wasn’t until 2016, while studying at the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School (VCASS), that Daniel discovered his true passion for the viola.
Under the guidance of Lisa Grosman and Chris Cartlidge, he developed a deep love for the instrument and for the collaborative nature of chamber music, which motivated him to pursue a professional music career. Daniel then studied his BMus at the University of Queensland under the tutelage of Patricia Pollett, where he won the 4MBS Musica Viva Sid Page Memorial Prize, Richard Pollett String Prize and Sleath String Prize.
Daniel had additionally held the position of principal viola for The University of Queensland’s Symphony Orchestra and Pulse Chamber Orchestra. He has performed with AYO seasons and chamber players, Opera Queensland, Ensemble Q, and has participated in side-by-side projects with Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and Queensland Symphony Orchestra.
