2025 MMF Fellow 

Heesoo Kim, a cellist from the Gold Coast, is in her second year at the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM) under Howard Penny. She graduated with first-class honours from the Sydney Conservatorium, studying with Julian Smiles, and began her musical journey in Paris, earning an artist diploma with high distinctions from the École Normale de Musique de Paris and the Regional Conservatorium of Paris under Geneviève Teulières-Sommer and Hélène Dautry.

Her notable performances include Elgar’s Cello Concerto No. 1 with the South Melbourne Symphony Orchestra in 2024 and, at age 14, Saint-Saëns’s Cello Concerto No. 1 3rd movement with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra after winning the Young Instrumentalist Prize. Internationally, she performed with the Brescia Orchestra in Italy at the Talent Music Summer festival in 2019, performing Haydn’s Cello Concerto No. 1 in C.

Heesoo has earned awards such as the Sydney Eisteddfod Doctors Orchestra Instrumental Award (2022) and performed a solo recital at Salle Cortot in Paris (2023). She plays professionally with Opera Australia and Orchestra Victoria.
